Want to Start Spreading Sunshine?

We received this letter from the publishers of Spreading Sunshine newsletter:

June 8,1998

Dear Friends,

It is with a heavy heart that we come to you to announce that after 3 years and 129 issues that we are putting the newsletter to bed and ceasing publication with this enclosed issue. Joan and I are both involved full-time with the ministry of our local church in addition to administrating 4 large websites for the Intercontinental Church of God and the Garner Ted Armstrong Evangelistic Association. We have been so involved with what we have been doing that we have been late on 3 issues and missed one altogether.

We wish to thank all of you that subscribed to a master copy of the newsletter so that you could distribute the newsletter to a much wider audience than we ever could have. We have enjoyed every minute of our involvement with the newsletter. In the last 36 months we have received scores of letters from our readers telling of miracles that were experienced and lives that were affected and changed. It has been one of the most rewarding experiences that our family has ever been involved with. Thank you too, those of you that supported this work for so long. In the first two years, we published weekly and it was only in the past 12 months that we published every other week.

The theme of this last issue is Prayer and probably nothing can be as important as our contact with God, our Father. It is our sincere prayer that all of you continue to be blessed and experience the warm "sunshine" that is the love of God and Jesus Christ. Just because the newsletter is ceasing publication does not preclude us from continuing in the spreading of this sunshine throughout the world. Remain steadfast! As Christ said...

For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ. As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: (Col 2:5-6)

The "sunshine" we spread now will pay off later, "Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear. (Matt 13:43).

In Christian love,

The Cumming Family: Chris, Joan & Jody. 5514 l60th Avenue NE, Redmond, Washington 98052. e-mail: sunshiner@worldnet.att.net

We at Servants’ News are sad to see this newsletter go. It served many people and asked nothing from them. It boasted nothing about itself.

We believe that the Cummings are making a mistake to stop this newsletter, but that the Eternal will show it to them in due time. (After all, all of us lived under hierarchical government for years in the WCG before we understood what was really wrong with it.) Nevertheless, we cannot help but compare the humble service of Spreading Sunshine to the rather extensive claims made by Garner Ted Armstrong and his Intercontinental Church of God. The name of the group is to some degree a boast. GTA has often claimed to be "the Ezekiel watchman." Neverthe less, we realize that people have learned the Bible through GTA’s preaching.

But Spreading Sunshine does not have to stop now!!

If someone has the time, ability and desire to continue Spreading Sunshine, the Cummings will be glad to help them continue it. We asked and received this message from them:

If someone wishes to take over, we would ask that they send to us a copy of an issue that they have published and we would send it to our mailing list with a cover letter. Should any of them wish to continue getting the Sunshine, they could contact the new publisher directly.

Should someone decide to become the publisher, I will provide for them complete procedures demonstrating how we put the publication together. I have complete records on every poem and story I used. Because of copyrights, no one will be able to charge for the newsletter, of course. Much copyrighted material was used but no one restricted us because we gave it freely. The cost of providing one person with the Sunshine weekly for a year was $13.00. When we went to bi-weekly after two years, that cost dropped to $6.50 per person. We spent most of $5,000 in those three years. One should count the cost before deciding to take this over. I have complete production records (themes used, sources used, etc.) that I will share with the new publisher.

There it is! A work looking for laborers! Are there any? &
