Keep the Feast in 2003!

Our Feast of Tabernacles 2003 will be at Manville Camp/Retreat Center in Manville, Illinois, Friday night, October 10, through Saturday October 18. I have not visited the camp yet, but Terry Williams has. Please see his adjoining article. The cost for eight days food and lodging will be about $250 per person, with some kind of discount for children.

The exact cost will be figured after the menus are finalized—we hope to make it a real feast! The camp cook will supervise the meals, but we will help serve. Numerous Bible studies and family activities are being planned—including the recording of another original song! Anyone who would like to help in the planning is welcome. — NSE

This is a strikingly beautiful campsite which is located in the lovely north central plains of Illinois. The site is about 110 miles southwest of Chicago. Manville Camp/Retreat Center is blanketed by large, sprawling country farmland off Illinois Route 17. The facility is impressive, immaculate and bright. The camp’s entry is uplifting, organized and refreshing. You receive a very positive impression as you drive toward the main lodge area.

The proprietor, Larry Wright, a minister of the Church of the Nazarene, was very open to our spiritual beliefs. He was quite anxious to have us attend his site in October 2003. One of the main meeting rooms is a facility of 1820 sq. ft., with a stage, piano, PA system and projection screen. There is a gas-log fireplace. The hall is heated and air-conditioned.

The camp has a full service dining hall that seats 250. The kitchen is modern with an automatic commercial dish washer. Also, there is a separate chapel/conference center that seats 175. It is heated and air-conditioned.

The camp has a mix of private and dormitory rooms. Each dormitory style rooms can sleep 10 to 12 people with a total capacity of 264. There are 15 motel style rooms. The grounds have 30–40 single family cabins which are privately owned. Five of these private cabins are available for our use. They feature 2 bedrooms, living area, kitchenette and a bathroom with showers. There are 20 RV spaces and tent sites.

Possible off-site housing includes a Super-8 Motel and a Holiday Inn in Streator about 12 miles north of the campground. Shopping and other essential services are available there.

The tabernacle building is large with a very high ceiling and a large stage. It could seat as many as 1,100, but can be set up for smaller groups. It is heated and air-conditioned.

There is an indoor gym with basketball, volleyball and floor-hockey. Craft and game rooms are also present. Outdoor sports fields for football, soccer and baseball are also present.

Nearly all of the structures are within easy walking distance. Yet there are surrounding acres of woods for those who want to go exploring. The camp has everything we need for a wonderful Feast.
